PEPSA Flag Off Social Behavioral Change Campaign in Jos South.

The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has flagged off a social behavioral change campaign in Jos South Local Government Area. The event which took place at Gyel Primary School was attended by the Hon. Commissioner of Environment, Climate Change, and Mineral Development, Hon. Peter Kanang-Gwom who flagged off the urban sanitation and hygiene program under the Sustainable Urban Rural Water and Sanitation Program (SURWASH).

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Christiana Malo, Director of Pollution Control and Waste Management, who represented the Commissioner. emphasized that building toilets in homes is crucial in protecting families and communities from disease outbreaks. The Commissioner further revealed that the ministry supports PEPSA's projects and activities.

The sanitation authority was urged to intensify public enlightenment campaigns and enforcement in project communities. The Commissioner also encouraged residents to construct and use toilets to prevent disease spread.

Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council, represented by Hon. Nyam Dung, Supervisory Councilor, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, reaffirmed the local government's commitment to collaborating with PEPSA to achieve SURWASH program objectives.

Dagwom Rwei Jos South, represented by the Secretary to the Traditional Council, emphasized the need for enforcement to drive behavioral change. He advised the sanitation authority to use a carrot-and-stick approach, stressing that without follow-up actions and possible prosecution, the intervention may not be taken seriously.
