GOVERNOR LALONG WARNS AGAINST ETHNO-RELIGIOUS PROFILING AT NIREC 2ND QUARTER MEETING IN ABUJA.

Plateau State Governor and Chairman Northern Governors Forum Simon Bako Lalong has warned that unless Nigerians stand against ethnic, religous and political profiling in running the affairs of the country, the search for peace and unity will remain illusive.

Governor Lalong was speaking at the 2nd Quarter 2021 Meeting of the Nigerian Inter Religious Council (NIREC) in Abuja.

The Governor said Nigeria is a diverse country with people of different backgrounds and choices which should not be used against them in any way.

He said "we have to put humanity above any other consideration because when we judge people by their ethnicity, religion or other leanings, we miss their potentials because profiling influences the marginalisation of people without reason. For instance, we have to treat crime as crime and isolate criminals rather than covering their actions by where they come from or their religion. This further creates disunity and division".

Lalong said his administration in Plateau State has ensured that people get what they deserve irrespective of their backgrounds. This he said has brought about peace and tolerance which has now restored calm in the State.

He cited the Plateau State Peace Building Agency and the Inter Religious Council as tools that have been deployed to institutionalise peace efforts in the State in order to consolidate on the gains made so far.

Lalong said he will continue his peace building efforts even after leaving office as he plans to enroll for a PhD in Peace and Conflict studies.

Representative of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,  Sultan of Sokoto, CAN President and the Executive Secretaries of the Christian and Muslim Pilgrim Commissions all concured with Governor Lalong on the need to shun all divisions especially by using ethnic and religious differences which are rights that people enjoy from their creator.

Kaduna Labour Strike: Tallen Mourn the death of infants

The Honorable Minister of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen has lamented the death of an infant at the hands of mindless nurses in Barau Dikko Hospital, Kaduna State.

In a press statement, the minister said “What has happened to our humanity? Where did we get it wrong? As a Nigerian woman, I am in shock to imagine that the lives of innocent infants are no more sacred even to those entrusted to care for them. It is in this mood that I am wondering why 3 Nurses of Barau Dikko Hospital, Kaduna, under the guise of the ongoing Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike in Kaduna State turned off the Oxygen on a 2-day old infant which resulted in death. No matter the provocation, this is unacceptable”.

Tallen said, “as a Mother and as the Minister of Women Affairs who has sworn to protect the lives of Nigerian children, I consider this a heinous crime and condemn this in all totality”.

She said, “Life is sacred and the life of this innocent child that was ended abruptly is indeed very sad”. Nurses by their calling are caregivers “...to practice with compassion and respect for inherent dignity, worth and personal attitude of every person without prejudice at all times," even in times of crises.

“As custodians of the Child Rights Act, 2003, which guarantees that children deserve life and protection, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs will support all actions prescribed and will join as parties to this case to ensure that justice is served”. She added.

The Minister appreciated the proactive action of the Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Eufai in ensuring that the perpetrators of this ugly development are properly disciplined. “I also commend the Honourable Commissioners for Health and Human Services and Social Development in Kaduna State for reaching out to the bereaved family on our behalf”.

Tallen appeal to the workers in Kaduna State, particularly the essential workers to please consider the plight of women and children, who are sick or in the hospital at a time like this.

She said in as much as workers have the right to legitimately make their demands are known to Government, essential workers, particularly those that save lives should please reconsider their actions. I appeal to the Kaduna State Government and Labour Unions to please sheathe their swords and return to the negotiating table to amicably resolve all the contending issues because no life is worth losing.
