Hon Davou restates ban on commercial motor-cycle operations, announces fine of N50,000.00 for offenders


The Plateau State Government has observed with dismay the resurgence of commercial motorcycle operations within the Jos - Bukuru metropolis, despite the law banning their operations.

In view of the danger this means of transport exposes the people of the state to, the Government has therefore taken steps to enforce the ban.

Accordingly, commercial motorcycle operators are to stop operations within the Jos - Bukuru metropolis forthwith, while tricycles known as Keke NAPEP are to start operations at 6:am and end by 6:pm.

Commissioner of Transport, Davou Gyang who stated that penalty for non compliance is N50,000.00 said the measure was in line with the Greater Jos Master Plan which the governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang was determined to implement.

The Commissioner stated this while in a meeting with the GIOPAT De. LTD, Tricycle Riders Union of Nigeria (TRUN), Amalgamation Commercial Motorcycle Owners Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Riders (NACTOMRAS).

 Speaking further, Hon Davou said that the meeting was to officially inform them of the restriction order, adding that anyone found wanted will pay the sum N50,000.00 naira. 

While calling on religious leaders to sensitize their members, he implored them to key in so as ensure the success of the plans  on ground.

In their different comments, the leaders of each union expressed willingness to carry out the government order admitting that it is a welcome idea that will add value on the activities of the of the motorcycle and tricycle riders and the State, and assured to sensitize their members and register them again.
