It i saddening and greatly regrettable for me to receive the news of the demise of Ibrahim Mantu, Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President. The death which occurred early this morning comes at a time the home State of Ibrahim, the Plateau is at a cross road and would require the wise counsel of the elder Statesman to navigate this troubling times.Ibrahim Mantu, born 16th February, 1947, was elected to
represent Plateau Central in 1999 and became the Deputy President of the Senate
in August, 2001.
As a Plateau Senator and Deputy President of the Senate,
Ibrahim, I must say had so much to say for him that Nigerians can join me to
applaud him and to lament his passing.
As the remains of Ibrahim Mantu will be laid to rest later
today in Abuja, I join many of his admirers across our nation to pray for his
soul to rest in perfect peace.
Sen. Mantu, Farewell to a political juggernaut Prof. Dakas
Senator Mantu's enormous
contributions to the entire people of Plateau Central, Plateau state and
Nigeria as a whole when he was the Senator representing Plateau Central
Senatorial District and Deputy Senate President Federal Republic of Nigeria is
a testament to his political sagacity and doggedness.
On behalf of myself, family and
associates, I pray God to comfort the hearts of his immediate family, the Pyem
Chiefdom, Plateau Central, Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
May Allah forgive him his
shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi.
SECURITY HEADS BRIEF GOVERNOR LALONG ON INSECURITY/CURFEW; SAY THEY ARE AFTER MISCREANTS WHO CARRIED ATTACKS.
Bako Lalong on the security situation in the State and the level of implementation of the curfew imposed on Jos North, Jos South and Bassa LGAs.
The heads of the security agencies present at the closed-door meeting with the Governor include the Commander, Operation Safe Haven and GOC 3rd Armoured Division, Commissioner of Police, Airforce Commander, and State Director DSS.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Commissioner of Police Edward Egbuka said the various heads of security agencies briefed the Governor on the security situation which he said was under control.
He said the imposition of the 24-hour curfew in Jos North from this Sunday has curtailed the spread of violence in the Jos metropolis where 7 persons were killed.
According to him, a total of 36 persons from yesterday's attack were rescued unhurt and in good condition. He said so far, more persons have been arrested and the investigation is still ongoing.
CP Egbuka also addressed the controversy over the identity of those behind the attacks saying: "these are miscreants and hoodlums who want to take advantage of the situation to cause trouble and loot. This is not the first time it has happened. We don't want to name anybody. It's just miscreants and miscreants will also want to take advantage".
He assured that the security agencies will go all out to ensure that they fish out the criminals and miscreants who must be made to face the law of the land.
He advised the citizens to abide by the curfew and avoid violations as the security agencies are poised to enforce the directives of the Governor in maintaining law and order.
Earlier, the Co-Chairmen of the Plateau Inter-Religous Council, Rev. Prof. Pandang Yamsat and Emir of Wase Alhaji Muhammadu Sambo Haruna met with the Governor behind closed doors to discuss the intervention of the Council in calming the current situation. They disclosed that the Council will be carrying out its engagements to further douse the tension.

Dame Pauline Tallen sue for tolerance and reconciliation
The Minister for Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen has condemned in strong terms the deteriorating security situation in Jo's North local government area of Plateau state.
The honourable Minister Dame Tallen urged citizens of Plateau state to cooperate with the State governments directive to remain calm and allow the government and allowed the security operatives to handle the situation and restore peace to the troubling areas.
She prayed for healing and recovery for all those who had sustained injuries or lost loved ones as a result of the ugly development and called for the spirit of forgiveness to reign in their hearts as they allow the law to take its course.
