JOS NORTH COUNCIL BOSS DEBUNKS HIS PURPORTED IMPEACHMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

JOS NORTH COUNCIL BOSS DEBUNKS HIS PURPORTED IMPEACHMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council , Shehu Bala Usman has condemned in strong terms his purported impeachment in the  Social media, describing it as the handiwork of his detractors who are bent on destabilizing his administration and plunged the area in a needless crisis.

A statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Philip Eplong, the chairman described the purported impeachment as an exercise in futility that will not stand the test of time since there is no any record of Legislative sitting

The Chairman  noted to impeached a sitting Chief Executive, proper and constitutional channels; such as the collection of the two third majority of signatures of members to a petition; presentation of the petition to the chairman;  the setting of seven Man committee shall be constituted to hear the alleged offences, if any and the presentation of the Committee's report for deliberation; must be followed.

The statement said all these procedures were not followed and described the alleged impeachment as a social media exercise and an abuse of the Legislative integrity, adding that what is reported is  unconstitutional, null and void.

The Chairman disclosed that since  assumption of office in October last year he has been carrying all along, including the Legislative Council and he is at a lost as to where the said impeachment is coming.
He added that from all intents and purposes, the said exercise is aimed at rubbishing his modest achievements since assumption of office.

The Jos North Council Boss wondered why the Legislative Council will attempt to impeach him without giving him any notice or the opportunity of fair hearing through service and defence of allegations against him, if any, as enshrined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Shehu Bala Usman therefore used the medium to appeal to the security agencies to apprehend those behind the infamous move as their action has the capacity to cause the breach of the hard-earned peace currently being enjoyed in the state.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and be law abiding, noting that  efforts are on to unravel the identify of these agents of destabilization who, he said, are out to achieve their selfish interests.

The Chairman called on the people of the locality to go about their legitimate businesses as authorities of the council are on top of the situation.

Laity council is saddened by the Senseless murder of Priests and Nigerians- Henri Yunkwap

Laity council is saddened by the Senseless murder of Priests and Nigerians- Henri Yunkwap

Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria has once again issued a press statement to express its sadness over the senseless murder of Priests and Nigerians.

The press statement signed by the National President, Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria Hon. Sir HenryYunkwap KSJI read ‘Less than one month ago we issued a press statement over the Sunday, June 5, 2022, unprovoked, brutal attack and massacre of Catholic worshippers on Pentecost Sunday, right inside the Church in Owo, during which over 40 unarmed Nigerians including women and children lost their lives, and many more were badly wounded. We condemned the barbaric act and called on the government to as a matter of urgency arrest the perpetrators and address the issue of insecurity in the nation.

While waiting for the government response, the situation keeps deteriorating as our Church and

Priests are now the soft targets of these daredevils.

We repeat, any government that cannot provide security for its people, indirectly tells them to defend themselves by whatever means they can. For how long are we to witness these barbaric acts of killing of our people and now our priests who have sacrificed all not only to the Church but the society as a whole. We are indeed tied to calling the attention of the government on what is incontrovertibly their primary responsibility.

Unfortunately, even now, many Nigerians, including priests, are still with their abductors. We strongly believe that this government is too intelligent not to know what is happening; as such they owe Nigerians an explanation to what is happening and why the Catholic Church and priests have become targets?

To our fellow Catholics and indeed all Christians and men and women of goodwill, these are indeed perilous times in the history of our dear nation; therefore, we must rise to the occasion and begin to match words with action. We must demand accountability from our leaders; they must be seen taking action against this evil murderer, rather than merely sitting in their comfort zones issuing condolence messages.

The Council sympathizes particularly with the Bishops, Priests, and the Laity of Kaduna and Auchi Dioceses who lost their priests in the hands of these bandits. May God console all families who have lost their dear ones as a result of the senseless killings in our land.

In spite of the evil, let us be assured that our Lord is enthroned on high. He sees all things and he will surely deliver us and our nation from all evil plaguing the nation.

WHY WE CAN'T RELEASE DARIYE,NYAME, OTHERS DESPITE PARDON.

WHY WE CAN'T RELEASE DARIYE,NYAME, OTHERS DESPITE PARDON.
Two months after they were granted state pardon, 159 convicts, including a former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye, and a former Taraba State Governor, Jolly Nyame, have yet to be released, Sunday PUNCH has learnt.

The Council of State led by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had on April 14 approved the pardon of the convicts, a decision which generated outcries.

Nyame is serving a 12-year jail sentence for diverting N1.64 billion during his tenure as governor of Taraba, while  Dariye is serving 10 years’ imprisonment for N1.126 billion fraud.

But while justifying the clemency, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the president, Garba Shehu, had said it would have been insensitive for the President not to pardon the duo, saying that they had life-threatening illnesses.

However, checks by our correspondent on Friday revealed that the two and others granted the state pardon were still in custody.

When contacted about why the two former governors were still in their custody, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abubakar Umar, explained that the NCS was not responsible for the delay.

According to him, the duo could not be released by correctional service until a correspondence from the Ministry of Justice stating so was received.

*Umar said, “Why they have not been released is because we are still waiting for correspondence from the Ministry of Justice. The moment we get that, we will effect their release. It is a presidential pardon, no doubt, but there must be a document to back their release. They can’t be released on pronouncement alone.”*

Efforts to get the reaction of the ministry, through the media aide of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Umar Gwandu, were not successful. He didn’t pick up several calls to his line and had yet to respond to a text message sent to him on the matter.

Meanwhile, there is palpable anger in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State over the non-release of Dariye from the correctional centre.

*Some kinsmens of Dariye, who served as a governor between 1999 and 2007 and hails from Mushere community in the Bokkos LGA, condemned how the Federal Government was handling his matter, describing his continued detention as strange.*
