Hon. Amb. Asama Leads Reps Delegation in N20m Donation to Bassa Crisis Victims

As your representative, I believe that true Legislative service is not only about making Laws- it is also about lobbying effectively to get what our people need, when they need it, and how they need it.

It was with this conviction that I facilitated the delivery of a cash cheque of ₦20,000,000 (Twenty Million Naira) to support vulnerable and crisis-affected individuals in Bassa Local Government Area. This much-needed intervention was made possible through the generosity of the Office of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the National Assembly, Abuja, and was officially presented to the Bra Ngwe Irigwe at the District Palace.

This gesture is not just a token; it is a reflection of what we can achieve when representation is intentional and people-focused. I understand the weight of the difficulties we face- displacement, insecurity, economic pressure, and the need for social cohesion- and I want to assure you that I remain fully committed to securing more interventions, facilitating rehabilitation programs, and advocating for Sustainable Development across all communities in our Constituency.

I urge our People, especially the Youth, to remain vigilant, resilient, and united. Security is a collective responsibility. As the Government intensifies its efforts to ensure peace, our communities must also remain alert and committed to protecting our land and values.

In this moment, I pray for God’s healing upon our land and for comfort to all families affected by crisis. Let us remain hopeful and united- our best days are still ahead.

Leadership is not just about holding an office. It is about showing up for the people, speaking for the people, and delivering for the people.

I remain at your service!

PROF. PATRICK DAKUM ADVOCATES IMPROVED WORKERS' WELFARE AS RECIPE FOR EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE & ANTIDOTE FOR CORRUPTION.

As the World marked Workers Day yesterday, the Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, IHVN, and Plateau State Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, Professor Patrick Sunday Dakum, has called on the Nigerian government at all levels to improve and make better the welfare of workers, saying it will go a long way in boosting their morale in discharging their duties and shunning corrupt practices.

While congratulating workers on their auspicious day, Dakum lamented that the Nigerian civil service which is the engine room of government is in a state of comatose by virtue of unfavourable condition of service, thereby killing the morale of the greatest population of workers, promoting and encouraging corruption to thrive in the service.

He observed that the deterioration of Nigeria and its snail-walk growth and the poor implementation of government's policies are tied to the poor morale of civil servants whose take home pay is by far less commensurate to the economic situation of the country and cannot meet their domestic demands and cater for the academic and health needs of their children and wards.

Dakum berated the N70, 000, minimum wage which most states are yet to pay, while workers are grappling with exorbitant house rents, high cost of food stuff and transportation, school fees, health needs and so on, saying its too little.

He called on the government at all levels to ameliorate the hardship of workers by constructing housing units for them, provide mobility loans and improve on their health and other allowances; and to ensure each one of them has access to health insurance scheme; and on retirement be given their full entitlements and consistently have their pensions paid.

The former Commissioner also frowned at the indebtedness of most governments in the payments of gratuity of retired civil servants and epileptic payments of pensions saying they are traumatic and depressing capable of causing untimely deaths.

He stated that every retired civil servant is supposed to feel satisfied and happy for serving their country after retirement and not to be frustrated with nothing to show after putting over thirty years in public service.

Dakum added that the suffering of retired civil servants after retirement spurs current workers to safeguard their future by delving in corruption to have investments thereby retarding the progress and prosperity of the country.

According to him, every retired civil servant is supposed to go home with their complete gratuity and other appreciation largesses from the government, and to regularly secure their pensions.

Dakum commended the workers for their patience, resilience and determination to make the country succeed, and admonished them to shun corruption, and be dedicated to their duty and to take their health seriously which is paramount.
He congratulated and wished them a fulfilled workers season.

HON. (AMB.) DANIEL ASAMA AGO VISITS BURNT JOS TERMINUS MARKET, CALL FOR URGENT INTERVENTION

Hon. (Amb.) Daniel Asama Ago, Member Representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, paid a sympathy visit to the devastated Jos Terminus Market to commiserate with traders, business owners, and families affected by the tragic fire outbreak that engulfed the market in the early hours of today.

During the visit, Hon. Daniel was received by market leaders across various segments, who recounted the harrowing experience of discovering the market engulfed in flames. According to their accounts, despite the timely arrival of fire service personnel, efforts to control the blaze were thwarted by the resistance of unruly individuals who prevented access to the scene. This unfortunate disruption contributed significantly to the complete destruction of the market, affecting thousands of shops and traders.

Describing the incident as both a "deeply distressing tragedy" and a "recurring decimal," Hon. Daniel lamented the repeated losses the community has suffered. He emphasized that the tragedy goes beyond the loss of structures and goods. It represents a severe blow to the economic heartbeat of Plateau State and the livelihoods of countless families.

"This is not just a market that went up in flames for the second time," Hon. Daniel remarked. "This is the economic foundation of countless families, the pride of our state, and a hub that has served Plateau and beyond for decades."

He also expressed deep sorrow over the reported loss of a life; an individual who died while attempting to help during the chaos, extending his condolences to the bereaved family.

Hon. Daniel acknowledged the profound psychological and financial impact the incident has had on the victims. He called for an immediate and coordinated response from the Plateau State Government, federal authorities, and emergency agencies. He stressed the urgent need for damage assessment, financial relief for affected traders, and a robust, long-term rebuilding plan that incorporates fire safety standards and disaster resilience.

"We must not only comfort those who have lost so much," he stated, "but also take concrete steps to prevent future tragedies. This includes fire safety audits, structured emergency response systems, and investment in modern infrastructure to protect our vital commercial centers."

Reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents, Hon. Daniel pledged to appeal for assistance on their behalf and work closely with stakeholders in that regard.

He concluded by calling on private organizations, humanitarian bodies, and well-meaning Nigerians to support ongoing relief efforts and stand in solidarity with the victims during this painful chapter.

FEDERAL AND PLATEAU STATE GOVERNMENTS LAUNCH WASE GRAZING LOT, UNVEIL COMPREHENSIVE LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT PLAN

...Governor Mutfwang says the initiative will help curb insecurity

In a landmark stride toward transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Dr. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has officially launched the Wase Grazing Lot in Plateau State.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, marks a major milestone in advancing livestock development and fostering peaceful coexistence in Plateau and beyond.

While presenting the Wase Feeding Lot System, the Minister underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to repositioning the livestock sector into a modern, productive, and resilient driver of Nigeria’s agricultural economy.

“This initiative is a joint effort between the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the Plateau State Government to establish a Livestock Village,” the Minister stated. “The facility will include pasture irrigation systems for both wet and dry seasons, a veterinary clinic, a primary health care centre, basic education facilities, staff accommodation, and a security post. With proper implementation, we anticipate the production of high-quality milk for both domestic and international markets.”

Welcoming the Federal delegation, Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s foresight in establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development, noting that the initiative addresses long-standing sectoral challenges and opens new avenues for economic growth.

“This is a visionary step whose time has come,” Governor Mutfwang declared. “At the inception of the Ministry, some had their doubts. But today, what has been unveiled shows a clear and strategic roadmap—not only for boosting our GDP but also for job creation and entrepreneurship. The livestock value chain is enormous. If properly harnessed, we could build a billion-dollar livestock economy right here in Plateau State.”

The Governor further emphasized the initiative’s potential to significantly reduce insecurity, especially the persistent violent attacks  that have plagued many communities.

“If we can properly address issues around pastoral livestock practices, we will eliminate a major root cause of insecurity. The friction between farmers and herders will no longer exist. This initiative provides a path toward the peace we have long yearned for,” he stated.

Governor Mutfwang also highlighted ongoing state-level interventions aimed at modernizing livestock infrastructure, including the planned remodeling of the Jos abattoir to handle up to 500 cattle daily. He reiterated the state’s readiness to align with the Federal Government’s livestock development vision.

“This is a day of joy and a divine moment for Plateau State,” the Governor said. “Our institutions, researchers, and citizens are fully prepared to collaborate in driving Nigeria’s livestock transformation.”

The Governor expressed appreciation to Dr. Kingsley, a long-time technical partner, for his unwavering support toward Plateau’s agricultural growth, particularly the introduction of Napier grass as a sustainable animal feed option.

EASTER IS NOT A STORY, BUT A MESSAGE

(Modest Thoughts with Ayuba, Yilgak'ha, loisayuba420@gmail.com, 20th April, 2025)

This devotional exposition begins with some texts from Scripture and will end with another from it. This is because, the message of the cross is a controversy depending on which side one is looking at it. Humans are as saved or destroyed as the amount of correct information available to them with the context of faith as a divine enterprise.

In Romans 4:25 the Scripture says, 'He was delivered over to death (on the cross) for our justification': 1Corinthians 1:18-31 reads: "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God"; while 2 Timothy 2:11-13, goes: "Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself." These texts collectively mean that, the benefit anyone derives from the message of the Cross depends on how it is understood and received!

What Easter represents to me is that, Christ died on the cross of calvary for my sake, your sake and our sake. He went through the agony of rejection, betrayal, death and uncertainty of grave but overcame that i may be victorious too. He demonstrated his power over pain, death, grave and, above all, restores hope to mankind who, through sin, was due for eternal condemnation. He conquered fear, and enthrone freedom for man through the mystery of His death, and resurrection!

Easter, therefore, is about love, hope and redemption. The Bible in John 3:16 says: 'For God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.' The entire message of the cross starts and ends with this generous and all inclusive love offer to mankind!

At Easter, Christ died and resurrected. If Christ has not been raised, our faith is futile; we would have still be in sins (1Corinthians 15:17- NIV). In his resurrection, hope is birthed hence the assertion: Christ in us the hope of glory! (Colossians 1:27)

The redemption that came through Christ is full measured. The devil came to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus came to restore and give life more abundantly!

The benefit that comes with the gift of Jesus Christ is holistic. In 2 Peter 1: 3 - 4, the scripture says: God, in his divine power, has given us all that we need for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: He has give us exceedingly great and precious promises: That by these holistic provisions, we might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world!

The death and resurrection of christ was, indeed, a mystery onto the salvation of mankind but his antagonists did not know. Hear this: "None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory" (1Corinthians 2:8). To them, an enemy, a bad competitor in power play was eliminated, but little did they know that by killing him, they have promoted him into the saviour he was destined to be. Hallelujah!

The moral lesson here is that, never plot evil against anyone because you may end up promoting your perceived enemy to position of prominence and relevance. Those who plot to bring others down shall not see the top. The story of Haman, a high ranking Government Official, who plotted evil against Jews, in the book of Esther Chapter 3-7, added substance to this profound lesson. If they do, their rise will be short-lived in time. Only love which Easter, practically, represents blesses!

In His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ became the proverbial phoenix. From the ashes of His death, he resurrected and, ushered mankind into life imperishable. In other words His sacrifice is the seed and and secret of eternal regeneration for human, particularly, those who believe Christ as Lord and Saviour!

How many hymn shall we sing today for this great redemption buffet? Please join me in this worship session:

A. Rugged Cross: On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.
2 O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary. [Refrain]
3 In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
to pardon and sanctify me. [Refrain]
4 To that old rugged cross I will ever be true,
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then he'll call me some day to my home far away,
where his glory forever I'll share. [Refrain]

B. He Arose (Refrain): Up from the grave He arose

With a mighty triumph over His foes

He arose a Victor from the dark domain
And He lives forever with His saints to reign

C. Jesus Paid It All (Refrain): Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

D. In Christ Alone (Refrain): In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Here is a clarion call. Praise the Lord, the author and finisher of our faith. I can go on and on and on in praise and worship to Him. "Blessed be God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3). He has give us victory, we shall, therefore, lift him higher, and higher and higher!

Easter is not a story, but a profound message of salvation. If you are a sinner like me, then, the message is absolutely for you, as it  is to me! Whoever does not receive Christ as personal Lord and Saviour will, certainly, meet Him as judge on the other side of eternity, hence the need to make hay while the sun shines!
