GENERAL GOWON UNVEILS REDESIGNED OLDEST GOLF COURSE IN NIGERIA, RAYFIELD 1913, APPLAUDS GOVERNOR LALONG FOR SUSTAINING PEACE 

Former Nigerian Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon has unveiled the redesigned oldest golf course in Nigeria, Rayfield 1913 which is now a green. 

Gen. Gowon while performing the event at the Rayfield golf course in Jos said he was happy that the game of golf is progressing in Plateau State and Nigeria at large with attendant benefits. 

He praised Governor Lalong for his passion for the game and also redeveloping the Rayfield golf course which is now comparable to any standard course in Nigeria. 

Gowon said the influx of visitors and investors into the State would not have been possible without the restoration of peace which Governor Lalong has worked hard to build over the years. 

He called on the citizens of Plateau State Nigerians at large to do everything possible to live with one another in peace and respect the sanctity of life at all times. 

While commending the Nigerian Armed Forces for their gallantry in dealing with criminals across the country, Gowon said he was pained to see how a few people and groups have chosen to terrorise the citizens. He urged Nigerians to expose criminals and expose them by supporting the security agencies to deal with them. 

Governor Lalong while appreciating Gen. Gowon for honouring the State to unveil the redesigned golf course, said Rayfield has a historic reputation that needs to be cherished and developed into an economic potential in sports. 

Lalong said his efforts in fostering peace and working against criminals and crisis merchants has gradually paid off with more and more people confidently coming into the State. 

He said the Government will also work on the Laminga golf to making it a green. 

Gen. Gowon and Governor Lalong later perfomed symbolic shots to commemorate the event. They were joined by Deputy Governor of Edo State Philip Shuaibu, Amanayabo of Twon Brass in Bayelsa State King Alfred Diete-Spiff, HRH, Agwam Atyap in Kaduna State and the Captain of the Rayfield golf club. 

Governor Lalong also sponsored Hole 13 which was named after his mother, Tiopsan.

GEN. GOWON FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF BRITISH-AMERICAN JUNCTION FLYOVER IN JOS; PRAISES GOVERNOR LALONG FOR PROJECTS AND PEACE 

Former Nigerian Head of State General Yakubu Gowon has flagged off the construction of a new interchange at the British-American Junction in Jos with a call on the citizens of Plateau State to continue to support Governor Simon Lalong to complete his developmental projects. 

General Gowon said the flyover project was highly commendable because it will address the traffic situation in the area and enhance the movement of goods and persons within the State. 

He said Plateau State remains a centre of attraction and a gateway to many States in the country, hence the need to have good road infrastructure for the easy access of visitors and citizens. 

The former Head of State congratulated Governor Lalong for exhibiting political maturity by continuing with inherited projects and completing many of them as well as initiating others across the entire State. 

This he said is giving the State the capacity to attract more development and continue to fulfill its responsibility as the home of peace and tourism. 

Governor Lalong in his remarks described the construction of the flyover as a major step towards addressing the plight of motorists who have over the years experienced so much challenges passing through the road which is a major link to the North East. 

He said "we have not only executed projects (both inherited and new ones), but ensured that every part of the State is touched irrespective of whether the people voted us or not. We have put behind us the era of carrying out projects to favour ethnic, political or religious affiliations.   We are all aware of the nightmare citizens of the State and other road users go through to commute through this corridor. Our decision to take the construction of this fly over and dualization up to Lamingo junction is borne out of the need to place the State on a pedestal for economic growth knowing that the long hours people spend on traffic impedes commerce".

The Governor disclosed that the road is a Federal road, but the State Government decided to intervene while eagerly awaiting the commencement of the Akwanga through Jos to Gombe segment of the project because of  its importance to its people. 

He directed the State Ministry of Works to Liaise with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to ensure that conditions for intervention are fulfilled in addition to a joint-supervision to meet up with the standards and specifications that are set for such interventions to enable us get reimbursed for this work. 

The Governor said the project is the first road project that his administration has carried out using the Public Private Partnership option where a financial institution is to provide all the funds with the State Government providing the guarantee. 
 
"This partnership has not only opened a new vista in project funding for the State, but also affirmed the success of the administration in restoring confidence in Plateau State and rebuilding the economy. I therefore assure citizens of the State and other road users that with this guaranteed funding arrangement and the commitment so far demonstrated by the contractor, this project will be completed and commissioned by my administration before leaving office in May 2023" he said. 

Niger State Governor and Acting Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee and Convention Planning, Abubakar Sani Bello praised Governor Lalong for being resilient and focused in fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of Plateau State despite the challenges of funds. 

He said the performance of Governor Lalong is a good omen for the APC which has made giant strides in many areas of the economy in all States where it is in power. 

Commissioner Ministry of Works Pam Bot-mang said and they have been in constant engagements with stakeholders along the corridor which is a Federal Highway in order to ensure that there is no encumberance. 

He said the total sum for the project is 9 billion naira with cost of funds and the completion period of 18 months. 

The Long Gamai Miskoom Martin Shaldas said the performance of the Governor in projects is one that is based on equity, justice and fairness. 

Chairman of the construction company, Cranenburg Nigeria Ltd, Alhaji Nasiru Danu assured that the company will work assiduously to meet the target of completion and the desired quality.

The Groundbreaking ceremony will be performed by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, GCON and witnessed by Governors of Niger, Edo and Kwara.

The event will take place at the British-America flyover junction site in Jos.

Time is 10am.

The newly appointed Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, has been elected the new President of CBCN, taking over from Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze whose four year tenure just ended.

To assist Archbishop Ugorji as the Vice President is Archbishop Matthew Ndagoso of Kaduna Archdiocese. The new CBCN Secretary is Bishop  Donatus Ogun, OSA, of Uromi Diocese, while Bishop Peter Kayode Odetoyinbo of Abeokuta Diocese is the Assistant Secretary.

Besides the principal officers, other Bishops were also elected to oversee various departments and units of the Catholic Secretariat.

The new officers will lead the Conference for the next four years.

A former Chief of Staff to Plateau State Government, Chief John Dafaan, has declared his intention of taking a shot at the House of Representatives tussle for Mikang/Shendam/Qua'an Pan Federal Constituency. 
Dafaan made his intention know at Qua'an Pan Local Government Area secretariat, Ba'ap, yesterday when he along side his entourage paid a visit to the council chairman, Hon. Ernest A. Da'a to notify him of his political aspiration. 
According to Dafaan, he was at the secretariat to notify the Chairman and his cabinet of his desire to contest the House of Reps based on his eligibility, legibility and equity sharing arrangement by their constituents. 
Responding, the Executive Chairman represented by the Supervisory Councilor for Agriculture and Natural Resources,  Hon. Rislanu Isa Baba, assured him of a fair and level playing ground to all  aspirants within Qua’an-Pan LGA, contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The wife of the leading governorship aspirant in Plateau State, Mrs Maureen Victor Dimka has identified lack of participation in decision making, worse rates that often go unpunished, and force marriages that are common in the society as some of the barriers  that threaten the existence of women all over the world.

While felicitating  with the women of Plateau State yesterday as they commemorate the International Women Day (2022 IWD), she said, the story of women's struggle for equality belongs to all who care about human rights.

"Our history of struggle and resilience to challenges is paved by brave women who choose to break through the barriers of gender inequality", she added.

Mrs Dimka also described Plateau women as peace builders who are building bridges across some more the most painful devides in the State.

"For us in Plateau State, we commemorate this International Women Day as a day to celebrate our women who bravely break those barriers in their conflicted communities."

She therefore, called on the authorities at all levels to help women to push open, the doors because they can make the difference as women are the community, they know what is going on in their midst and how to address it.

GOVERNOR LALONG WELCOMES GOLFERS TO JOS AS TOURNAMENT TO UNVEIL REDESIGNED OLDEST GOLF COURSE IN NIGERIA KICKS OFF 

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has welcomed professional and amateur golfers to Jos, the Plateau State capital for a tournament to unviel the redesigned oldest golf course in Nigeria, Rayfield 1913. 

While performing the tee off at the Rayfield golf course in Jos, Governor Simon Bako Lalong said the game of golf is associated with the historical role that mining played in the development and growth of Plateau State and Nigeria at large. 

He said as a Governor with passion for sports including golf, he has decided to take the game to the next level as well harness its potentials for tourism, business and relaxation. 

Lalong said the redesigned Rayfield golf course is fully green and will be a legacy which his administration will leave for the sport in the State, adding to its potentials as a destination for leisure, business and hospitality. 

The Governor said peace which has been substantially restored in the State is very important because it has given citizens and visitors confidence to come into Plateau State for business and leisure. 

He also explained that making the Rayfield golf course green puts it in a good position to be recognised nationally and internationally as the first golf club in Nigeria. 

Captain of the Rayfield Golf Club Air Commodore Lazarus Mshelia rtd. said over 200 professional and amateur players from across the country are participating in the tournament which is a huge gain from the successive Governor's cup organised in the State under Governor Lalong. 

He appreciated Governor Lalong for his passion in developing golf in Plateau State which has brought in more players thereby creating an opportunity for repositioning the image of the State. 

Tournament Director, Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria JohnBull Dangofa said the event has shown early signs rising to the standard of a spectacular sporting fiesta: 

Dangofa said players from international golf clubs and the PGA will perform at the event and commended Governor Simon Lalong for supporting the tournament. 

He stressed that several youths are being taken off the streets to play golf and that such has greatly held in reducing crime.

FEDERAL CHARACTER COMMISSION TO PARTNER ALGON AND SET DESK OFFICES IN PLATEAU STATE.

The Federal Character Commission and Association of Local Governments Of Nigeria,ALGON,Plateau State have agreed to set up desk offices and officers to man them across the Seventeen Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

This is to ensure synergy between the commission and citizens of the state as well as ease challenges faced by youths while accessing recruitment services across the country.

Initiator of the briefing and Commissioner Of the Federal Character Commission,FCC representing Plateau State,Stephen Jings said from records it has been discovered plateau citizens have been lagging behind when it comes to recruitment into Military,Para Military and other Organizations in the country.

Briefing Chairmen of the Seventeen,LGAs as well as the Ministry For Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs,the Federal Character Commissioner said reports have shown that plateau people have not been filling their quota when it comes to such recruitment opportunities.

Jings identified some of the reasons to include lack of adequate information and guidance on the required and recommended processes to access the opportunities.

He said that necessitated the idea of collaboration with the state through the LGAs which are the closest to the people so that coordination and mobilization can be done at that level with support from the Commission so that citizens can have it easier during the exercises.

Responding,Plateau State ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Shendam LGA,Miskom Alex Nantuam on behalf of other Chairmen who asked questions on certain areas thanked the Commissioner Federal Character Commission, Stephen Jings for the initiative saying this will address the myraid of employment issues that the LGA Chairmen had been expressing concern about.

He said the Chairmen are willing to nominate and have the desk officers trained so that it can bridge the gap between the citizens and the Federal Government in that regard.

The State Commissioner,Ministry For Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs,Sylvanus Tapun who was also part of the meeting applauded the synergy saying this will ensure a robust relationship between the two bodies with benefit to citizens.

The interface ended with a decision to have a technical session where the desk officers will be trained by the Federal Character Commission and the LGA Chairmen as key partners next week in Jos.
