Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has marked his second year in office, reflecting on the progress made and outlining future plans for the state. In a broadcast to the people of Plateau State on May 29, 2025, Governor Mutfwang highlighted the administration's achievements in various sectors, including security, economy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and water supply.
Security and Infrastructure
The governor noted that his administration has taken bold steps to secure lives and property, working closely with federal authorities to revitalize Operation Rainbow and launching an Emergency Communications Centre with a toll-free line. He also mentioned the establishment of the Plateau State Activity Centre, equipped with modern technology for surveillance across the state.
On infrastructure, Governor Mutfwang reported that his administration has made significant progress in road construction and rehabilitation, with over 111 kilometers of urban roads rehabilitated and over 3,000 kilometers of roads constructed by the Ministry of Works. The administration has also completed or is nearing completion on several other road projects.
Economic Development
The governor highlighted the administration's efforts to boost the economy, including the introduction of the Tin City Metro transport service, which has created jobs and subsidized transportation costs for thousands of passengers daily. He also mentioned the procurement of new buses and Toyota Sienna vehicles to facilitate interstate travel and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with ValueJet Airlines to provide flights between Jos and Abuja.
Agriculture and Water Supply
Governor Mutfwang reported that his administration has made significant gains in agriculture, including the recovery of over 900 hectares of land belonging to IDPs and the distribution of fertilizer and other farming inputs worth ₦16 billion. The administration has also signed an MoU with the Famous Research Institute to train youths in agri-business and acquire skills across the agriculture value chain.
On water supply, the governor noted that his administration has awarded a ₦30 billion contract for the Langtang North Water Project and revamped the Langtang North water scheme. The administration is also constructing isolated water schemes in several LGAs and providing solar-powered boreholes across the state.
Education and Healthcare
The governor highlighted the administration's efforts to improve education and healthcare in the state. He noted that his administration has slashed tuition fees by 50% for Plateau indigenes in state-owned tertiary institutions, increased scholarship funding by 300%, and constructed and renovated classrooms across the 17 LGAs.
In the healthcare sector, the governor reported that the Plateau Specialist Hospital has become a symbol of medical excellence, with the recruitment of more consultants, completion of the laboratory complex, and installation of equipment valued at about ₦2 billion. The administration has also revamped Primary Health Centres across the state and procured essential medical equipment.
