Bauchi Gov Approves Committee for Creation of New Emirates, Districts

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has approved a 41-member committee to oversee the creation of new emirates, chiefdoms, and districts in the state. This committee will evaluate submissions from interested communities based on equity, fairness, socio-political inclusiveness, and financial sustainability. The committee's objective is to strengthen traditional institutions, enhance local participation in governance, and preserve the state's rich heritage.

The committee comprises diverse members, including traditional rulers, judicial officers, academics, government officials, security agencies, and representatives from religious bodies and civil society organizations.

Governor Mohammed's administration has already made a notable move in this direction by approving the creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom with its headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. This decision was made after thorough consultations and studies of similar chiefdoms in Plateau, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states. The Sayawa Chiefdom will operate independently of the Bauchi Emirate and will be led by a traditional ruler, the Gun Zaar, with a rotational succession system between two historic clans, San Gami and San Gishi.
