PROF. DUL JOHNSON EMERGES NEW DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR BINGHAM UNIVERSITY.

Professor Dul Johnson of the Department of English is now the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University.

His emergence followed his unanimous election at the 117th Regular meeting of Senate held on 25th May, 2021 at the auditorium of the Faculty of Law soon after his nomination by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. W. B. Qurix. OFR.

Prof. Dul Johnson was nominated alongside Prof. Michael Akpan, current Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, who in a rare show of solidarity requested the kind permission of the Senate to step down for the senior Professor, whom he described as his elder brother and did not therefore deem it appropriate to contest the position of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor with him.

The request by Prof. Akpan received a resounding applause from the Senate which thereafter approved the nomination of Prof. Johnson as Deputy Vice Chancellor nominee subject to the approval of the Governing Council of the university.

The nomination of Prof. Dul Johnson was approved by Council at its 56th Regular sitting held on Friday 23rd July 2021.

Prof. Johnson, succeeds Prof. Alexander B. Adelaiye, who has successfully served out his second and final tenure of two years as Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Until his election, the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and also an Internal Member of Council.    Prof. Dul Johnson is an accomplished Professor of English literature and film studies.  He has taught at the University of Jos, and the Nigerian Film Corporation, Jos.

In 2010, he won the International writers program fellowship to Brown University, Rhode Island, USA, where he spent a semester working on his novel, “Deeper into the Night”.  His other creative works include “Shadows and Ashes” and “Why Women won’t make it to Heaven” amongst others.

His documentary film, “There is Nothing Wrong with my Uncle”, was nominated for best documentary in AMAA 2012, and the Basic Wright Prize for Director at the RAI International Ethnography film festival in Scotland in 2013.

His critical works are widely published both locally and Internationally.  His novels and short stories are also studied in many universities in Nigeria and the United States of America.
