Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has been appointed as the Campaign Director-General of the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointment was announced as part of the coalition's renewed strategy to reposition itself and challenge incumbent governors and other political heavyweights in the build-up to 2027.
Okorocha, a former governor and one-time presidential aspirant, is expected to lead the coalition's campaign structure, coordinate its activities across the states, and mobilise support for its candidates.
Sources within the coalition said his appointment followed wide consultations among stakeholders, who described him as a grassroots mobiliser with national appeal and experience in party organisation and electioneering.
The development comes amid the ongoing political tension between Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the formation and control of the Rainbow Coalition.
It also follows reports that the court dropped Governor Uzodinma and picked Okorocha, a development political observers say has further strengthened the coalition and boosted its confidence ahead of 2027.
With Okorocha now at the helm of its campaign council, the Rainbow Coalition is expected to intensify its activities in the coming weeks, as the race to the 2027 general elections gathers momentum.
The next one hundred days are expected to be very interesting, as political alignments, defections and rivalries continue to shape the contest.
