HON CALEB NUHU SHIKIR HAS APPLAUDED
GOV. CALEB MUTFWANG FOR THE CHOICE OF COMMISSIONERS
of cabinet members and the portfolios given to them.
In an interview with pressmen shortly after the swearing-in of the commissioners, the chairman of
the interim transition committee for Kanke Local Government Council Hon Caleb Shikir noted that
the majority of the members are technocrats who he believes will add value to
his administration and bring laudable developments to the state.
The economic development of the state, notably the economic
empowerment of the grassroots, is one of the governor's top priorities,
according to Hon. Shikir.
As an expert in microfinance banks, he thought it would be wise to join the initiative by using his knowledge and skills to create the means by which the local government council will establish a microfinance bank. He believed that once such a bank is established, it will have the ability to support the growth of both small and medium-sized businesses in the area as well as enhance the standard of living for rural residents.
He urged the Plateau people to work with the current
administration, adding that now that the election has passed, everyone should
put party politics aside and focus on initiatives that will advance the state's
development.
He claimed that the state is currently plagued by economic
and security issues. He urged everyone to band together to tackle the monster
that is staring us all in the face.
The chairman of the interim transition committee, Hon.
Shikir, noted that the current administration inherited a strike by civil
servants in both the state and local governments, but thanks to his excellency,
two salaries have been paid in my local government, and we are working to
settle the salaries for June and July. He also noted that the council chairmen
prioritized workers' welfare by passing a resolution that stated that paying
workers is a very important issue, so we are urging the workers to also
reciprocate the gesture and work more assiduously.
