RE: SOLOMON DALUNG’S COMMENT - A NEEDLESS ATTEMPT TO DISTORT UNITY AND MISREPRESENT INTENTIONS

Ordinarily, I would not have responded to the statement credited to Barrister Solomon Dalung, as neither I nor my principal, Rt. Hon. Daniel Naanlong, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, have any intention of joining issues with him. However, in order to set the records straight and correct the deliberate misrepresentation of the Speaker’s remarks, it is important to provide clarity for the sake of public understanding.

It must be stated clearly that the Speaker has never, at any point, made comments aimed at unseating Governor Caleb Mutfwang or undermining any political leader in Plateau State. His recent remarks concerning the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe as APC National Chairman were made in good faith and in the spirit of congratulating a son of the state who had attained a national position. There was no political undercurrent or threat implied.

Unfortunately, Mr. Dalung has chosen to twist a goodwill message into a tool for incitement and division. The attempt to portray the Speaker’s congratulatory comment as a declaration of political war or a slight on the Governor is not only mischievous, but clearly aimed at fabricating tension where non exists.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Speaker and the Governor enjoy a cordial working relationship anchored on mutual respect and a shared commitment to deliver purposeful governance to the people of Plateau State. They have continued to work hand-in-hand, across political affiliations, to prioritize the peace, unity, and development of the state. No amount of inflammatory writing or political distortion can undo this cooperation.

It is even more disappointing that Mr Dalung, being a lawyer, would undermine the judiciary by dismissing the Speaker’s mandate as a “judicial fiat.” One would expect that a person of his legal training would be at the forefront of educating the public on the three recognized stages of Nigeria’s electoral process pre-election, the actual election, and the post-election judicial review. If the Speaker’s emergence was validated by the courts after a thorough legal process, it stands as legitimate, lawful, and democratic.
In case Mr. Dalung has forgotten, the Rt. Hon.  Speaker is a third term member of the House having won election to the state legislature from 2015, 2019 and 2023.

Instead of fueling division, one would have hoped that Mr. Dalung would lend his voice to encouraging the current climate of cooperation and peaceful governance in Plateau.

While he has every right to express his views, it must be done with honesty, responsibility, and a genuine desire to build  not tear down.
The Plateau State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Daniel Naanlong remains focused on legislative responsibility, unity, and supporting all efforts aimed at repositioning Plateau for lasting peace and progress.

Once again, the Speaker will not be drawn into unnecessary political bickering. His focus remains service to the people.

Philip Eplong

It served as an avenue for direct interaction between the Governor and journalists, as well as a platform for reviewing the achievements and challenges of his administration.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the media for what he described as “patriotic and balanced reporting” on developments across the state. He acknowledged the important role journalists play in shaping public opinion and strengthening democracy, especially in a state like Plateau with its complex socio-political dynamics.

“We value the media as partners in progress. Your commitment to professional and responsible journalism is helping to foster peace, unity, and public trust,” Governor Mutfwang said.

Security and Development Prioritized

Governor Mutfwang used the occasion to highlight some of the key interventions his administration has embarked upon since assuming office. Top on the list was the issue of security, a matter that has continued to affect the socio-economic stability of the state.

He reiterated that his government is working closely with security agencies and community leaders to restore lasting peace to troubled areas, while also investing in long-term strategies that address the root causes of violence and unrest.

“Security remains our top priority. Without peace, there can be no meaningful development. We are committed to restoring Plateau’s image as a land of peace and tourism,” he stated.

On infrastructure, the Governor noted that major road projects, including rural access roads and urban renewal schemes, are underway to open up communities and boost commercial activities.

He also mentioned economic revitalization, particularly in agriculture and youth empowerment, as areas receiving significant attention under his leadership.

NUJ Commends Government Openness

The Chairperson of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, Comrade Ayuku Pwaspo, welcomed the Governor’s open-door policy and media engagement efforts. She commended the administration for its transparency and encouraged more frequent interactions with the press.

“This parley is not just a symbolic gesture; it’s a demonstration of a government that is willing to listen, explain, and improve. We applaud the Governor for setting a tone of collaboration,” she said.

An Interactive Session with Purpose

The event featured an interactive session where journalists posed questions and sought clarifications on issues ranging from budget implementation to rural development, education, and healthcare.

Governor Mutfwang responded to each inquiry with openness, reinforcing his administration's commitment to accountability and inclusive governance.

In his closing remarks, he assured Plateau citizens that the administration would continue to pursue people-centered policies while keeping the media as a vital stakeholder in the development process.

The media parley ended with renewed optimism about the future of Plateau State and a shared understanding of the role that effective communication and collaborative governance can play in driving sustainable development

Tinubu Administration Flags Off $1.1 Billion Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Highway as Fourth Legacy Project

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe dual carriageway as its fourth major legacy infrastructure project, signaling renewed commitment to national development through strategic road expansion.

Valued at approximately $1.1 billion and funded through a facility secured from the Chinese EXIM Bank, the 421-kilometre project will convert the existing single-lane road into a modern dual carriageway. Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, disclosed that the contract has been awarded to Messrs CGC, with construction scheduled to commence in 2025 after the ongoing procurement phase. He further noted that design inputs are being finalized in collaboration with the Plateau State Government. The project, expected to span four years, is anticipated to significantly boost infrastructure and stimulate regional economic growth.

CONGRATULATORY MEASSAGE. PROF. NENTAWE YILWADA

Ayuba Yilgak'ha
Indeed, it is true that, God rules in the affairs of men!
Congratulations to Hon Minister, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, on his well deserved election as National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Party.

From available records, the new National Chairman has continues to trail the blaze having emerged as the first Ngas-man to ever became a Minister, and National Chairman of a Political Party. He is, also, the second of Plateau sons that emerged National Chairman of a Ruling Party after Chief Solomon Daushep Lar of blessed memory who Chaired of the then ruling People Democratic Party (PDP)!.

The elevation of Prof Goshwe to lead the Party, at this time, is a pointer that he has unequal track record, a nitch and grace, that stood him out before the Party's National Executive Council (NEC), and members of the political platform!

I found great sense in the view of a political analyst, Abdullahi Haruna,  who wrote and i quote,  "With 2027 on the horizon, Tinubu's reelection ambition will require more than Federal incumbency - it will demand regional stability, ethnic equillibrium and trusted surrogates across Nigeria's fault lines. Professor Nentawe offers all three.'

With this election, responsibility has  beckoned on the National Chairman to team up with all leaders of thought within the Ruling Party to work out innovative means of stabilising, galvanising and reinvigorating the Party towards victory in future elections, and to contribute to government's efforts at establishing Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and development!

May God grant the National Chairman the grace to deliver on this great task with distinction. May this responsibility, also, be a stepping stone or launch path for greater, and most fulfilling responsibilities ahead for him!

APC NATIONAL CHAIRMAN TUSSLE; WHY SEN. JOSHUA C. DARIYE IS THE IDEAL PERSON TO CHAIR THE APC.

By Shuaibu Inusa
Yes, Abdullahi Ganduje resigned as APC National Chairman on June 27, 2025, officially citing health concerns and the need to focus on his well-being. However, there were also reports of internal party tensions, zoning disputes, and allegations of financial impropriety that may have contributed to his decision.

Sticking to zoning arrangements can help party stability in Nigeria by promoting fairness, unity, and a sense of belonging among different regions and groups. Zoning helps reduce feelings of marginalization and encourages diverse participation, but it only works if applied sincerely and not just for elite interests.

If parties ignore zoning, it can cause divisions and weaken internal democracy.

The North Central should produce the next APC national chairman for reasons of *fairness, justice, and equity*, as the party’s zoning arrangement originally allocated the position to the region after Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation. North Central has been a strong supporter of APC, delivering five out of six governors in the region and playing a big role in Tinubu’s 2023 victory.

Stakeholders argue that honoring this arrangement will strengthen party unity, reward loyalty, and ensure the region feels included ahead of the 2027 elections.

WHAT IS APC's BIGGEST CHALLENGE AT THE MOMENT?

The biggest challenge APC faces right now is internal division and infighting, especially between old loyal members and new defectors, which threatens party unity and stability.  Rising economic hardship and public frustration are also eroding support, while opposition parties like ADC are gaining ground by attracting defectors and appealing to young voters.

WHAT IS ONE THING THE PARTY NEED AT THIS MOMENT?

The APC needs strong, inclusive, and strategic leadership to succeed in 2027. Key qualities include unity among party leaders, grassroots mobilisation, data-driven decision-making, and addressing economic challenges like job creation and cost of living. Leaders should also keep promoting internal democracy, progressive reforms, and effective communication of achievements to win public trust.

The party also need Stability.

Stability from experience can help the party handle internal crises, unite factions, and win elections, especially in Nigeria’s complex political landscape.

WHO CAN EFFECTIVELY LEAD THE APC AS THE CHAIRMAN?

Some people have already shown interest to contest the APC national chairman position thus far. Most are from North Central, reflecting the region’s push for the chairmanship. Each brings strengths. They include:

1. *Senator Umar Tanko Al-Makura* (ex-Nasarawa governor): Well-respected, experienced, and seen as a consensus builder.
2. *Senator Joshua Dariye* (ex-Plateau governor): Political survivor with crisis management skills and grassroots mobilization prowess.
3. *Yahaya Bello* (ex-Kogi governor): Young, energetic, and influential.
4. *Senator Solomon Ewuga*: Seasoned politician from North Central, respected but not as prominent as others.
5. *Senator Sani Musa*: Known for integrity and a relatively clean record, but less national influence compared to ex-governors.
6. *Chief George Akume* (SGF): Powerful, experienced, and close to the presidency, but rumors of his appointment have been denied.

WHY SEN. JOSHUA C. DARIYE IS THE IDEAL PERSON TO CHAIR THE APC.

Without bias, prejudice or ill- will to the other aspirants, I will focus on the most qualified among them who posses the requisite dossier to steward the party at this critical moment; Sen. Joshua C. Dariye. Here’s a detailed look at why former governor Joshua Dariye should be consideres as an ideal APC chairman over anyone else:

1. *Extensive Political Experience*: Dariye has dealt with high-level political drama, crises, and power tussle as a two-term governor and senator, showing he can handle strong personalities and navigate internal disputes. He had a deep knowledge of Nigerian politics and the APC’s internal workings.
2. *Strong Northern Roots*: He is from the North Central zone, which many party stakeholders believe should produce the next chairman for zoning balance. As a respected northern politician, he could rally northern governors and ministers around party unity, especially with the chairmanship zoned to the North central.
3. *Grassroots Mobilizer*: He's known for his grassroots connections, which could help him mediate between powerful figures and the party base. Dariye is known for mobilizing support at both state and national levels, which could help unify and energize the party.
4. *Professional Background*: As a chartered accountant, Dariye brings financial expertise that could benefit party administration.
5. *Political Resilience*: Despite setbacks like impeachment and legal battles, he has shown resilience and ability to bounce back in politics. He managed severe crises in Plateau state, including religious and political turmoil which required negotiation and balancing competing interests.
6. *Survivor and strategist* : Dariye's reputation as a political survivor and strategist means he knows how to build alliances and outmaneuver rivals.

Dariye’s political skills are impressive—he’s known as a strategist, survivor, and experienced leader with deep grassroots connections and the ability to build alliances and unify party factions. Many believe he could stabilize and reposition the APC, especially with support from the North-Central zone and Plateau State.
