RE: SOLOMON DALUNG’S COMMENT - A NEEDLESS ATTEMPT TO DISTORT UNITY AND MISREPRESENT INTENTIONS
Gov. Mutfwang Engages Media, Outlines Developmental Roadmap for Plateau
WALBE ORGAK
In a demonstration of transparent governance and media engagement, the
Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Tuesday held a
media parley where he unveiled the strategic interventions of his
administration aimed at transforming the state amidst persistent challenges.
The parley, held in Jos, brought together members of the press,
representatives of media associations, and government officials. It served as
an avenue for direct interaction between the Governor and journalists, as well
as a platform for reviewing the achievements and challenges of his
administration.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the
media for what he described as “patriotic and balanced reporting” on
developments across the state. He acknowledged the important role journalists
play in shaping public opinion and strengthening democracy, especially in a
state like Plateau with its complex socio-political dynamics.
“We value the media as partners in progress. Your commitment to professional
and responsible journalism is helping to foster peace, unity, and public
trust,” Governor Mutfwang said.
Security
and Development Prioritized
Governor Mutfwang used the occasion to highlight some of the key
interventions his administration has embarked upon since assuming office. Top
on the list was the issue of security, a matter that has continued to affect
the socio-economic stability of the state.
He reiterated that his government is working closely with security agencies
and community leaders to restore lasting peace to troubled areas, while also
investing in long-term strategies that address the root causes of violence and
unrest.
“Security remains our top priority. Without peace, there can be no
meaningful development. We are committed to restoring Plateau’s image as a land
of peace and tourism,” he stated.
On infrastructure, the Governor noted that major road projects, including
rural access roads and urban renewal schemes, are underway to open up
communities and boost commercial activities.
He also mentioned economic revitalization, particularly in agriculture and
youth empowerment, as areas receiving significant attention under his
leadership.
NUJ
Commends Government Openness
The Chairperson of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State
Council, Comrade Ayuku Pwaspo, welcomed the Governor’s open-door policy and
media engagement efforts. She commended the administration for its transparency
and encouraged more frequent interactions with the press.
“This parley is not just a symbolic gesture; it’s a demonstration of a
government that is willing to listen, explain, and improve. We applaud the
Governor for setting a tone of collaboration,” she said.
An
Interactive Session with Purpose
The event featured an interactive session where journalists posed questions
and sought clarifications on issues ranging from budget implementation to rural
development, education, and healthcare.
Governor Mutfwang responded to each inquiry with openness, reinforcing his
administration's commitment to accountability and inclusive governance.
In his closing remarks, he assured Plateau citizens that the administration
would continue to pursue people-centered policies while keeping the media as a
vital stakeholder in the development process.
The media parley ended with renewed optimism about the future of Plateau State and a shared understanding of the role that effective communication and collaborative governance can play in driving sustainable development
Tinubu Administration Flags Off $1.1 Billion Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Highway as Fourth Legacy Project
Valued at approximately $1.1 billion and funded through a facility secured from the Chinese EXIM Bank, the 421-kilometre project will convert the existing single-lane road into a modern dual carriageway. Once completed, the highway is expected to enhance road safety, ease the movement of goods and people, and strengthen economic ties between central and northeastern Nigeria.
Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, disclosed that the contract has been awarded to Messrs CGC, with construction scheduled to commence in 2025 after the ongoing procurement phase. He further noted that design inputs are being finalized in collaboration with the Plateau State Government. The project, expected to span four years, is anticipated to significantly boost infrastructure and stimulate regional economic growth.
