The name Prof. Sabestine Maimako does need introduction. Here is a man, a rare man who came, saw and conquered, especially the infrastructural deficit that characterised the University of Jos (UniJos) before his ascension.
The former Vice Chancellor (VC) was appointed as the 9th Substantive VC of the university on July 23, 2016. This dynamic Professor of Accounting, soon after his appointment, sung into action and within a span of five years, changed the university's narrative from a relatively mundane institution to a magnificent one.
To Prof. Maimako's credit is the mass movement of faculties and departments of the university from the highly congested Bauchi Road Campus to the Naraguta Permanent Site which is already wearing a new look.
Some of the projects executed under the stewardship of the astute admistrator include but not limited to the construction and equipping of the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Social Sciences with well ventilated and furnished lecture theatres; finishing and furnishing of the entrepreneurial centre to world class standard courtesy the generous support recieved from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund).
Other major physical facilities executed include the transformation of the University Clinic which now has the capacity to receive deliveries and wards to admit in-patients; the completion of the administrative block; Liasing Office in Lagos; the Center for Excellence which near completion as well as the VC's resident at Rayfield. Be at liberty to add to the long list of transformational exploits of workaholic VC.
Under Prof. Sabestine's watch, University of Jos became one of the most subscribed university in recent Nigeria by prospective students. He superintended over the accreditation and approval of virtually all the courses run by the university with great improvement in the quality of research.
Prof. Maimako, the "Infrastructure and Happiness" VC, a man who has become a reliable index of transformational developer has successfully reorganised the university to carry out its tripartite responsibilities, namely learning, research and community development.
Fondly called "Mai Taimako", the rear admistrator, image maker of UJ and Plateau State in general is rightly qualified to be honoured as the Father of Modern University of Jos!
Definitely, prof. Sabestine Maimako has written his name in Gold on the solid rocks of transgenerational leadership. The name of the quintessential leader shall be written on wavy table of ocean waters to be read across the blue skies
Prof. has rendered a good account of himself. His good name shall continue to ring bells on high hills and mountains, our beautiful Wase Rock, Shere Hill and even Gochom Promised Hills. The last of this great son of Mother Plateau is yet to be heard. Mount Kilimanjaro is soon to receive a town crier in his honourable honour!
The golden fish is already in places he may never visit in a lifetime: The heart of men. As the great man bow out as the VC of the transformed University this day, June 23, 2021, may he transit into days of bigger opportunities for the service of God and the betterment of humanity.
