The
Plateau state youth Council has reached a significant milestone on Saturday 26th January 2025 at Azi Nyako Youth Centre with the inauguration
of its Central Working Committee and the election of its officials. This new
leadership team is poised to drive positive change and empower young people in Plateau
state.
The
elected officials include:- Speaker Nurse Aseno Amos
Deputy
Speaker: Drenkat,
Clark
Ezikiel Gowal Wuchirwe and
Chief
Whip: Itsegok Abednego
In
his inaugural speech the Speaker Nurse Amos Asano expressed his commitment and
dedication to serving the youth with integrity, passion, and dedication, he
said ‘I am deeply humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me.
This position is not just a title, but a platform to lead, empower, and
champion the aspirations of the youth of this great state’.
The
Speaker further noted that youth are the heartbeat of any society, and the
future of the nation rests squarely on their shoulders, amidst challenges of unemployment,
lack of educational opportunities, social injustice, and political apathy.
He believes
that with unity, determination, and a strategic vision, the youth can overcome
these challenges and create a brighter future for themselves and future
generations.
Speaker
Nurse Amos Asano said his key priorities areas includes - Advocating for the
amendment of the PYC constitution to ensure it reflects the needs and
aspirations of all youth on the Plateau

Organizing workshops, training programs, and skills development initiatives to
equip our youth with the tools they need to succeed.

Collaborating with local businesses, government agencies, and international
NGOs to create employment opportunities, lobby for scholarship opportunities,
and implement community projects
Promoting
transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, and fostering a culture of
respect and cooperation among members. Only by working together, valuing
diversity, and embracing different perspectives can we build a strong, unified,
and resilient youth council that truly represents the interests of all youth on
the Plateau.
He
urged members join him in this collective journey towards a better
tomorrow. ‘Let us rise above our
differences, come together in solidarity, and harness our collective strength
to build a prosperous and inclusive future for all’ he added.
While
inaugurating the Central Working Committee, the chairman of the Plateau Youth
Council Comrade Panan Dapar emphasized that transparency, accountability and
open door policies are the key ingredients of his leadership which are expected
to foster a culture of trust, inclusivity, and responsiveness within the
council.
He
believed this approached will encourage active participation, collaboration and
a sense of ownership among the youth in Plateau State.
Additionally,
he urged the youths to always exercise caution when using social media,
emphasizing the importance of verifying information to prevent the
dissemination of falsehood.
In his
goodwill message the Commissioner of Youths and Sports Hon. Noel Nkup who also represented the Governor of
Plateau State congratulates the new members assuring them of the readiness of
the Governor His Excellency Barrister Caleb Mutfwang to work with them, noting
that the governor has already priorities youth empowerment as one of the key
policies of his administration.
He
said already there is plan to remodel the youths centers across the three
senatorial district which will be equipped with skills and entrepreneurship
facilities among others which will positively engaged the youths.
Earlier the Oath Commissioner Barrister Akila Kasham
emphasized the importance of adhering to the PYC rules and regulations,
stressing that taking of the oath are a solemn commitment, not just a
formality. This underscores the significance of upholding the principles and
values of the organization, urging the newly sworn CTV to conduct themselves in
a manner consistent with these standards.
