PLATEAU ATTACK VICTIMS RECEIVE MORE RELIEF MATERIALS FROM STATE GOVERNMENT

Sequel to the  broadcast by the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong that places affected by recent attacks in the state will be presented palliatives, the Governor has match words with action as the State Deputy Governor, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden today lead a high powered government delegation to deliver relief materials to survivors of the attacks.

The first port of call by the delegation was Yelwa Zangam in Jos North Local Government Area were scores loss their lives following last week's attack on the community.

The Deputy Governor while presenting the relief materials to the survivors appealed to them to remain calm as government will do everything possible to ensure that they are well catered for.

The delegation also paid a similar visit to the Brra Ngwe Rigwe, Reverend Ronku Aka at Miango, where Professor Sonni Tyoden sympathised with the Paramount Ruler over the recent attacks in the locality.

He noted that the Governor, Simon Bako Lalong is passionate about peace in the state, stressing that perpetrators of the dastardly act will be brought to book.

Also, relief materials were also presented for onward distribution to those affected. The relief materials include, bags of rice, maize, cattons of indomie, Milk, toiletries among others.

PLATEAU GOVERNMENT DENIES SEALING HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The attention of the Plateau State Government has been drawn to allegations made by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba who appeared on Channels TV programme on Monday 30th August claiming that the Assembly Complex has been sealed.

This false allegation has further been circulated on social media associating the Executive arm of Government and the Governor as being behind it.

We wish to make it abundantly clear that the Executive arm of Government and the Governor is not aware or behind the purported sealing of the House as it does not dabble into the affairs of another independent arm of Government.

It is on record that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako was the first Governor to implement full Autonomy for the legislature and Judiciary as well as Local Government in the country.

It is therefore not possible for him to be associated with any action that will impede on the activities of the House which has its rules and conventions.

The Governor remains the longest serving Speaker of the House in the history of democracy in Plateau State, understands the workings of the House, and has demonstrated uncommon respect to the leadership and members of the Assembly.

To the best of our knowledge, the House of Assembly remains open for legislative business. The good people of Plateau State and members of the public are advised to ignore the allegation and refrain from dragging the Executive arm of Government and the Governor into the affairs of the House.

Those who have any concerns should channel them to the security agencies and desist from peddling falsehood against the Executive arm of Government and His Excellency the Governor.

Insecurity: Stop the blame game and proffer solutions- Jos East APC Elders

JJos East APC elders have called on good people of Plateau and Nigerians to have faith and continue to support the administration of Governor Simon Bako Lalong in its quest to find lasting solutions to the current security challenges bedevilling the state, they frowned at some politicians who are using the situation to misled the Plateau citizens and Nigerians. The elders stated this while responding to questions from media men during a press conference.

The Elders also frowned at those who are distracting the governor who is working vigorously to restore peace in the state, saying they are not patriotic and sincere, because, the security challenges are not only affecting Plateau state but is across several states in the country including the President home state.

They lamented that while in the other affected states, the stakeholders are putting their heads together and profiling solutions to the lingering crisis, but in Plateau state, the case is sadly different as some people are politicizing the crisis and are blaming the Governor who is working assiduously to return peace to the state; they recalled that Dariye was impeached and yet it does not solve the problems as killings continue all through the Governor Jonah Jang administration.

The elders said they have confidence that Governor Lalong has the wisdom and the competence to address the situations as he has done for the past six years and he's not leaving any stone unturned to overcome the current challenges, what he needed at this time is prayers and support not condemnation.

They caution the members of the Plateau State House of Assembly not to go against the will of the people, saying what the state need now is to let all the arms of government come together to find a way of addressing the situations.

The press conference was attended by several elders; prominent among them were Prof Yohanna Izang, Vice-Chancellor Plateau State University Bokkos, Ambassador Kase Ibrahim, Hon. Rebecca Sambo, Hon. Luka Madaki former Commissioner, Hon Simon Itse Madaki, Chairman APC stakeholders Forum, Elder Agwom Nyam, Chairman Ezere Elders Forum, Hon Sanda Agwom former Jos East Council Chairman.

PRESS CONFERENCE BY JOS EAST STAKEHOLDERS ON THE SECURITY SITUATION IN PLATEAU STATE

29th August 2012

Gentlemen of the press

We begin by thanking you immensely for honouring the invitation of the Jos East stakeholders of APC to brief you on our position on the unfortunate development of insecurity on the Plateau. As stakeholders in the Plateau project, it has become necessary to be part of progress engagements that can restore the peace and progress of our dear state.

You will recall that bloody attacks have been witnessed in the recent past in Bassa, Jos North, Jos South, and Riyom. Although the aforementioned local governments are all in the Northern Senatorial district of the state, we are mindful of the fact that the security challenges are being witnessed in other parts of the state it is a matter of national concern.

The most recent attack has again put Plateau state in the limelight for the wrong reasons as bloodshed; violence and mutual distrust are not part of the definition of the Plateau Spirit. The age-long spirit of accommodation that has earned the state a reputation as the home of peace and tourism is now being put on trial by the activities of merchants of violence who must be condemned by all men of good conscience. As stakeholders, we believe that all men of goodwill must arise to change the narrative of violence which unfortunately has become recurrent since 2001.

OUR STAND

At the end of the meeting of the stakeholders of Jos East APC which was held on the 28th August 2021, we wish to brief you on our stand as follows

  1. We join other well-meaning Nigerians to condemn the killings by whatever guise that have occurred in the recent past in Bassa, Jos North, Jos South, Riyom, and other parts of the state and urge all citizens to uphold the sanctity of human life which can only be given or taken through divine providence.
  2. We believe that the attempts to create a hotbed of crises in Plateau, particularly Northern zone is the handiwork of enemies of progress who are bent on undermining the peace an initiative of the current administration for pecuniary gains, rather than trading blames, it is time to be more united irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation.
  3. The Jos East Stakeholders Forum extends condolences to the Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Dr Simon Bako Lalong KSGG, as well as the Government and people of Plateau over precious lives that were lost through the crises of the past few months. We equally call on the Governor not to be distracted, but to remain firm and focus on his determination to restore peace and tranquillity in the state.
  4. The Jos East Stakeholders wish to call it Member representing the Jos East in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba, who by the grace of God is the speaker of the Assembly, to continue to provide necessary, unalloyed legislative support to the Governor which is our core mandate to him, through these trying moments.

May we thank you for the auspicious audience while pledging our partnership with the press, all men of goodwill to restore our heritage of peace stability in our dear state.

Long live Jos East APC

Long live Plateau State

Long live, the Federal The Republic of Nigeria.

Signed: Hon Simon Itse Madaki, Chairman APC stakeholders Forum

Insecurity: Pankshin Elders/Stakeholders Holds World Press Conference.

WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE BY ELDERS AND STAKEHOLDERS OF PANKSHIN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA IN RESPONSE TO THE PLATEAU STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PRESS RELEASE ON PRESENT STATE OF INSECURITY IN PLATEAU STATE. DATED THIS DAY, SATURDAY  28th AUGUST, 2021.

Protocol

1.         We the elders and stakeholders of Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria held our regular meeting today being Saturday 28th August, 2021 at the residence of Professor John Wokton Wade, mni residence and resolved on germane issues of State and national concerns.

2.         After observing one minute silence in honour of those who lost their lives during all sectarian attacks in Plateau State, we wish to sincerely extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and good People of Plateau State on the recent security infractions in some communities of Plateau state that led to unprovoked killings of innocent lives, destructions of farmlands and hard-earned properties, thereby truncating sources of livelihood of the affected fellow citizens. We also commiserate with the families of the lost ones. These actions are highly unjustifiable and condemnable, especially the most recent Yelwa Zangam in Jos North LGA massacre. We sincerely share in their pains and sensitivity of Plateau people.

3.         It is unfortunate that the people of Plateau State will continue to experience unprovoked attacks on our communities by “unknown herdsmen” that will, hopefully, one day be known to the whole world.

4.         We therefore, commend the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Simon Bako Lalong, KSGG and all the security agencies on the Plateau for the efforts made so far in curtailing the escalation and aftermath spiral effects of these attacks.

5.         It is to our knowledge that the introduction of Plateau State Inter Religious Council, which the Executive Governor has implemented and the Five Years Road Map to Peace and Security and several other initiatives.

6.         The Governor has also tried, exceedingly well, in the last six years to ensure that Plateau State enjoys some reasonable level of peace and stability, despite limited funds, shortage in logistics support, slow in security interventions and other challenges.

7.         With the unfortunate incidences that lead to death and destruction of lives and properties of some Communities listed above, and the tremendous and commendable efforts of the Governor and his cabinet as well as Security Council in restoring peace and confidence, we noted with concern the nature, quality and contents of the “World Press Conference on the state of insecurity in Plateau State….” by the Plateau State House of Assembly on Friday 27th August 2021. Specifically, we note the following:

a.  We note and appreciate the right of individuals and groups in exercising freedom of speech. We however note that in parliamentary parlance, first motions on the floor of the House are advisory to the Executive and not an issue of ultimatum and subject to a press conference and or release.

b.  The legislative arm should not be seen to usurp the role of the Executive at the expense of their constitutional duties. For example, Employment and Security matters, amongst others are known world over as the function of the Executive and giving directive to the Local Government Chairmen to recruit vigilantes is an affront on the executive and exercise in futility, as responsible citizens of this country, we take exception to that.

c.   Similarly, it is worrisome and embarrassing that instead of being seen working in tandem with the Executive, especially in this most trying period, the Press Conference went as far as giving the Governor ultimatum of two (2) weeks to take action on certain motions of the House.

8.         It is incumbent on us the electorates and good people of Pankshin LGA to hold our elected representatives accountable, given that they are sent on special constitutional mandate for the common good and not to be combative and seen to be running a parallel government with the Executive arm as portrayed in a recent world press conference by Hon. Philip Peter Dasun, Chairman, House Committee on Information in the Plateau State House of Assembly.

9.         Consequently, we the elders and major stakeholders of Pankshin Local Government Area denounce the conduct of our Legislators representing us in the Plateau State House of Assembly, namely, Hon. Philip Peter Dasun, Pankshin North and Hon. Henry Longs, Pankshin South for taking such inimical actions in a world press conference without reverting to the constituents for input and consent.

10.    Arising from some of our germane observations on the contents and representations made above, we, the elders and stakeholders dissociate ourselves with such tactical and strategic blunders that clearly portray conflict of interest between the Legislature and Executive.

11.    Gentlemen of the Press, we the elders and major stakeholders of Pankshin LGA hope and pray that all these perennial killings, wanton destruction of farmlands and properties shall also pass away and Plateau State shall rise again, strong, viral and egalitarian where every citizen will coexist in harmony and tranquility.

12.    Finally, we appeal to elders and all Citizens of Plateau State that we join hands with the Governor to see to it that this ill that has fallen on us be put to an end in its totality. We don’t have any other State than Plateau. This is time for reasoning and not blame shift. We are all brothers and sisters who should be able to resolve our issues and avoid external people tampering with our collective interest.

13.    Thank you and may God bless our dear Plateau State.

Long live Pankshin LGA

Long live Plateau State

Long live Nigeria.

 Signed:

HON. DIKET PLANG

On Behalf of Elders and Stakeholders of Pankshin LGA

PROF CJ DAKAS MOURNS THE PASSING AWAY OF VOU LOISINTA PWOL

PROF CJ DAKAS MOURNS THE PASSING AWAY OF VOU LOISINTA PWOL

Prof CJ Dakas, has commiserated with the family of Plateau female blogger, Miss
Vou Loisinta Pwol, who died on Saturday in Jos.

Dakas in a statement on Sunday described the demise of Pwol as a shocking death that had robbed Plateau State of a talented young social media entrepreneur who  carved a niche for herself among her peers by impacting positively on the society using her online media outfit,"The State Of Plateau".

According to him, the sudden death of Pwol was a sad occurrence and a big blow to the state and particularly the social media where she distinguished herself and which he would encourage the younger generation to follow in her footsteps and change the society’s narratives for good.

“Vou Loisinta Pwol was a recurring name in the social media space and made her mark as an online blogger who had shown interest in all that were for the good of Plateau State,Nigeria and humanity.

“I have personally and severally read some eye-catching and memorable stories on her online platform which stories were the hallmark of professional journalism, as they were accurate, factual, credible, balanced, objective, reliable and responsible.

“I therefore wish to send my sincere condolences to her immediate family, the media, particularly the Online Bloggers Association in Plateau State, Plateau youths and pray that God grants her soul eternal rest,” Dakas said.

While urging all who mourn her to take solace in the fact that death is an inevitable end for all mortals, Dakas prayed that God would raise more of her kind who would take on the challenges of today, despite life’s obstacles, and fill the huge vacuum created by her exit.

DAYYABU GARGA SADDENED WITH THE PASSING AWAY OF VOU LOISINTA

DAYYABU GARGA MOURNS THE PASSING AWAY VOU LOISINTA
.

I received the sad news of the death of Miss Vou Loisinta Pwol with very mixed feelings yesterday.

This sad event occurred at a time a very pragmatic and enterprising young woman was contributing so much to the course of Plateau State as a media personality of repute through her online platform, “The State Of Plateau".

Having had the Late Vou Loisinta Pwol covered several of my activities under the various Ministries as a Commissioner, The Dayyabu Garga Foundation and my political journey into emerging as the flag bearer of the APC for Kanam Local Government Chairmanship position, the relationship had been that of a father/daughter seeing her exhibition of professionalism.

I believe in the supremacy of the Almighty God that no one questions his will as such urge us to bear this loss so close to our hearts.

My sincere condolence goes to her family and friends, the media industry on the plateau, online bloggers and generality of the plateau youths.

Her memories will remain in us as we journey through the challenges of today looking at a brighter tomorrow.

May God in his infinite mercy grant her soul rest and us all the fortitude to bear this loss, Amen.

NIGERIANS AS VICTIMS OF BROKEN PROMISES

NIGERIANS AS VICTIMS OF BROKEN PROMISES

By Ayuba Yilgak'ha,
I woke up today with many questions on my mine. Questions about how bad things have turned out to be in my land of promise, Nigeria.

Growing up as a child, I was told how great Nigeria was. In schools, I learnt about the great potentials this country hold. Great in both human and material resources endowment.

The struggle for independence by our heroes past was about the great promise freedom from colonialism represented. Those who saw the historic lowering of the Union Jack and the glorious hoisting of the Nigerian Green white Green flag bore witness to the deepest sense of hope which overwhelmed my country on 0ctober1, 1960.

Over time, a great number of Nigerians are doing great exploits in parts of the world. In technologically advanced countries of the world, they are doing well; they are also making towering impact in emerging economies of Asia, Latin America and everywhere. Our Tijani Muhammad Bande (the 74th President of the UN General Assembly), Ngozi Konjo Iweala (the 7th DG of WTO), Okinwumi Adesina (two terms President AfDB), Ufot Okon who broke 30 years record in Mathematics in Japan, just to mention a few who are doing us proud abroad but rarely at the corporate level back home.

A meta analysis of situations in Nigeria have shown that the compendium of speeches which heralded the take over of all successive regimes in the country, whether military or civilian, share one thing in common, and that is to reverse all subsisting odds and make the country better for all. This, however, is not to be in decades!

The current despensation with great intensity lured us, during campaigns in 2014, into believing that the change mantra on which it rode to clinch power shall end the era of deception and failed governance in Nigeria. Six (6) years down the line, however, things have gotten even worse or at least not getting any better.

The insecurity, corruption and epileptic economy which the regime promised to change is grossly enshambles. Who in all honesty could step out to attest that the system is really functioning well apart from those benefitting directly or indirectly from the current government?

Today, Nigeria has become highly polarised; the economy is perennially very sick; the moral conscience of the country is groaning; men are chanting songs of war; there is palpable fear in the land; the hope of the majority of the citizenry is no longer in government. To say the least, the people are largely living at the mercy of God!

Curiously, nobody ever promised us these bad state of things we currently live under. We have all become victims of broken promises. Nigeria is under the cumulative effects of failed promises by those who have been at the corridors of power!

Here is a question for our leaders especially those on the saddle currently. Do you really love this Nigeria? "Where Is The Love?" as the Black Eyed Peas song lyrics would have us asked?

The first stanza and chorus of the song referenced above deserves our collective and sober reflection. Please, read the lyrics meditatively:
"What’s wrong with the world, mama
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas
I think the whole world’s addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that’ll bring them trauma." The chorus then follows:
"People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach?
Or would you turn the other cheek?
Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love? (Love)."

Ain't the song referenced above a suiting reality of Nigeria today? Ain't things that bring truama becoming our new normal in the country? The situation in Nigeria is a gloomy one and great historian, Bernard Lewis postulated that there are two fundamental ways by which people and nations could respond to adversity or decline. The first is to asked the question, "Who did this to us?" and the second is, "What did we do wrong?" There is no better time to ask these questions than now.

'Who did this to us'? Our leaders who have become hypocrites and promise breakers. And "What did we do wrong in Nigeria?" Failure to be thorough and objective in our leadership recruitment processes. But more importantly, who will help us out of the deep dungeon we found ourselves in the country?

In the interim, Nigerian people need quick but lasting solutions so that the citizenry could step out without any fear of being killed and face their respective businesses of earning a living. We cannot continue to live under the present chaotic atmosphere of sounds and drums of war which has permeated the country's firmament!

In human history, time and chance has offered men of different kinds to be 'lords over the events' of others. While some of these privileged men mould, build and grow; others rent it, destroy and betray the confidence reposed on them upon the wide panoramic stage of posterity. These are the two sides to documented narrative on history makers!

In Nigeria today, an opportunity has come for someone or somebody to write his or her name on the good side of history. In times like this, the country need peace builders and not war merchants; statesmen and not misguided clergies/clerics who are fanning the embers of conflicts or uncultured politicians whose only concern is the next election.

Nigeria also needs men who can resucitate and not vultures who might be waiting for people in distress to die so that they could feast on their carcasses. Nigeria needs people who could profer solutions to problems and not those who will create more of them because there are already enough problems to tackle on our hands.

There is actually nothing normal in truama or the killing of any fellow human being by man. We can preach peace and love, and live out the true meaning of these great virtues. It is not rocket science. What is required is the strong will and unwavering determination to halt and change the ugly tide.

Quite frankly, the confidence level of Nigerians on the current Regime has dropped from the hypothetical 200 percent which made it easy for it to defeat the incumbent for the first time in the country's history to as low as who knows what level. However, the country's leadership could still rejik its allegedly biased, lukewarm and reactionary approach to national questions and evolve new strategies to make the system work for the common good.

The standard test of true leadership can be measured in its ability to tackle and resolve evolving problems including those not created by it and without pushing blames too. Blame game is a sign of weakness in the art of leadership. Oh Lord God almighty, increase the problems solving capabilities of our leaders or grant us objective men who will safe this country from utter ruin, amen.
